The Khurana Law Firm, P.C. is investigating reports from consumers regarding early failure of the Mighty Mule® Automatic gate openers by GTO Access Systems, LLC. Numerous posters on different review sites (e.g. Amazon) have noted in their comments that the gate openers for both single swing gates and dual swing gates have failed shortly after installation, including during the warranty period. Failure of the gate openers results in inoperable gates. Some commenters have suggested that the problems are due to the product being constructed with cheap plastic parts that break too easily or a faulty control board with undersized relays.
The Mighty Mule gate openers at issue retail for approximately $270 to $800. The complaints relate to Mighty Mule models (Single Swing) FM200 or FM350, (Dual Swing) FM500 or FM502. When the unit fails prematurely under the warranty period, the consumer must pay to ship the unit to the manufacturer to have it assessed. According to the comments, many times, the manufacturer will not repair or replace the unit under warranty and the consumer has to either purchase a new unit or purchase replacement parts from the manufacturer. This can add up to hundreds of additional dollars on top of the original cost of purchasing and installing the unit.
